Awarded a Phase II SBIR for $1.25M to Develop Advanced Water Testing Technology (AWTT)
Tampa, FL – August 16, 2023 – Ombra, a leading technology and professional services firm, today announced it has been selected by AFWERX for a Phase II SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) contract in the amount of $1.25M. The company’s work will be focused on Advanced Water Testing Technology (AWTT) to develop a tool capable of detecting COVID-19 and visualizing an affected area. AWTT will fill capability gaps in the Department of the Air Force (DAF). The technology will be delivered to Deployment Cell (D-Cell) at Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in Tampa, FL. Their mission is to not only to be first on location at Special Operations Forces projected bases around the world, but also to establish both the infrastructure and security necessary to establish order until the base is occupied by the units that will be assigned there.
“This contract is Ombra’s largest prime contract to date, making it an extraordinary milestone for the company in 2023. AWTT builds upon Ombra’s previous Chemical Engineering contracts, creating great momentum for 2023. The team is eager to begin development on this project and eventually add the product to Ombra’s offerings,” said Michael Fieldson, Founder and President of Ombra.
The Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX have partnered to streamline the SBIR and STTR process by accelerating the small business experience through a faster proposal to award timelines, changing the pool of potential applicants by expanding opportunities to small business and losing bureaucratic overhead by continually implementing process improvement changes in contract execution.
The DAF began offering ‘The Open Topic’ SBIR/STTR program in 2018 which expanded the range of innovations the DAF funded. With this contract, Ombra will continue its journey to create and provide innovative capabilities that will strengthen the national defense of the United States of America.
