Ombra to Develop Thermal Video Enhancement System for the U.S. Army
TAMPA, FL –Ombra LLC is proud to announce it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army for the development of Frame Rate and Image Enhancement for Low-cost Devices (FIELD) under the Phase I SBIR program. The contract was awarded to enhance low resolution, low-frame-rate thermal video captured by uncooled thermal sensors using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs).
The contract began in March 2025 and focuses on developing a software-only solution that will deliver high-resolution, high-frame-rate thermal video suitable for applications like surveillance, autonomous navigation, and industrial monitoring. Ombra’s innovative approach combines GAN-based super-resolution, flow-based temporal interpolation, and advanced image processing techniques to ensure real-time, high-quality video enhancement. With a focus on cost-effectiveness and scalability, the FIELD solution aims to significantly improve thermal imaging performance for critical military and defense applications.
